For Faculty, Staff, and Administrators
Some people are astonished when they first hear or read Catholic social teaching. How can an institution like the Catholic Church, long associated with conservatism and resistance to change, teach and proclaim a progressive message which challenges the global economic and political order?
It is unlikely that many would know that the Catholic Church has adopted a prophetic stance on social justice over the centuries. For this reason, Catholic social teaching has often been called the Catholic Church’s “best kept secret.”
Our mission in CSCST is to uncover the significance of this “secret” so that its rich tradition may be shared with the wider academic community. While it claims a vision of the world informed by its specific religious ethos, Catholic social thought is open to all, evoking a moral resonance in all earnest inquirers of the truth and seekers of justice.
